Sprinkler System Check-up & Maintenance Tips

Sprinkler Service

Benefits of a sprinkler system

  • An automatic sprinkler system will efficiently manage water usage while providing the correct amount of moisture for healthy plants, trees and turf.
  • You’ll conserve on water. When manually watering, up to half of the moisture is lost to runoff or evaporation. Automatic sprinkler systems can be programmed to operate in the morning or evening when water evaporation is at its lowest.
  • Less water usage means a lower monthly water bill.
  • It will be much easier to comply with local water-conservation ordinances.
  • You’ll save time by allowing your sprinkler system to do the watering for you.

COMMON SIGNS OF FAULTY SPRINKLERS

Not all disrepairs are evident. Sometimes, it can be difficult to detect when a landscape is not being properly watered due to a malfunctioning system.

Patchy Lawn – Some sprinkler heads could be clogged, misaligned, jammed, or damaged. Hence, certain green areas within the landscape are being watered more than others.

High Water Bill – An external part could be leaking due to wear and tear. Otherwise, the water leak might be coming from an underground shattered pipe.

Unresponsive Controller – A defective control panel can turn the entire sprinkler system inoperable. This problem could be caused by a lack of electrical voltage or program misconfiguration.

Pressure Imbalances – Excessive water pressure accelerates the deterioration of essential mechanical parts. Meanwhile, weak water pressure decreases the reach of predefined irrigation patterns.

IRRIGATION SYSTEM REPAIR PROCESS

Whether you have spray sprinklers or drip irrigation, call us if your system fails to operate due to a lack of maintenance. Our company follows a simple four-step process to guarantee customer satisfaction.

01. Assessment – Our irrigation technicians quickly diagnose any issues affecting the system and detect its malfunctioning components.

02. Estimate – Based on the work involved, we calculate the total costs of fixing the unit and give you a comprehensive estimate.

03. Repair – Once you approve the estimate, our technicians proceed to repair or replace the damaged parts of the irrigation system.

04. Maintenance – To avoid future disrepairs, we offer optional maintenance plans to preserve the optimal integrity of the equipment.

SPRINKLER MAINTENANCE TIPS

Only a qualified irrigation technician should manage certain tasks due to their complexity, like backflow testing. Nevertheless, property owners can still perform the maintenance of an irrigation system to ensure its adequate functionality. If you are an energetic DIY individual, here are some useful tips.

Clean Nozzles – Clogged sprinkler heads will sputter water, instead of irrigating normally. To fix this, extract the nozzles and screen filters, then wash these pieces with water to remove the dirt.

Flush Risers – Before reinserting the nozzles and screen filters, install flush caps and activate the system for 10 minutes to remove all debris found within the threaded risers.

Winterize – Cold weather can cause substantial damage. Drain all the water from the pipes with the “blow out” method and insulate the backflow preventer before the first frost of each year.

Make Sure Your Lawn Stays Beautiful with These Summer Irrigation Tips

Water during the optimum time. Early morning is the best time to water for a couple of reasons. The first being that mornings are cooler so it takes the water longer to evaporate. The second is that after the morning dew is gone, the lawn can dry quickly so a little spray around 9 a.m will help protect the grass from damage.

  • Use the right amount of water. Purchase a rain gauge or use cans to find out how long it takes for your irrigation system to put out 1 inch of water. Check each of your zones to ensure the timing is consistent across the board. Then set your timer for whatever interval your system needs to put out 1 inch of water.

Keep an eye out for dry or brown spots.

It could mean that one of your sprinkler heads is malfunctioning or is placed wrong for full coverage.
